Each year I host December Bunco at my house, and one of thing I love doing for this party is make a bunco ornament for everyone. This year I did a quick one with green felt, dice beads and one star bead to make a ribbon tree.
The materials you need are:
- Seven dice beads per ornament. The size I used was 10mm and I bought them off Amazon.com
- One star bead per ornament. The size I used was 9mm and I also bought it off Amazon.com
- Green felt strip (about 1/2 inch wide by 20 inches long). I cut this from a larger piece of felt bought at a fabric store.
- Upholstery thread and needle
First I cut the strip of green felt to give me a sturdy ribbon to use
I now have a ribbon about 1/2 inch wide and 20 inches long.
For the next part I set down a piece of white felt on the table (you could use fleece too) to give me a surface to shape the felt ribbon and hold its shape. Since I want to use seven dice beads, I curve it around seven time and mold it into a tree shape (wider at the bottom and narrower at the top).
The next step is to thread the needle with the upholstery thread and starting at the bottom of the tree put the needle through the felt ribbon.
Then thread a dice on the needle and push through the next section.
Keep pushing the needle through alternating dice and ribbon sections.
Once you get to the top add a star bead above the last ribbon section. Pull through more thread so you can have a large loop on the top and still have enough to go through the tree again with a couple of inches more. Tie a knot making a hanging loop.
Skipping the star bead, start threading through the tree again in each ribbon section and bead so the thread goes to the bottom.
Push the beads and ribbon up so the hanging loop knot is up against the star bead and then push the rest of the three tight. Then tie it at the bottom to secure it.
