I recently found a lot of poison ivy on the side of my house and since my whole family is very allergic to it, I wanted to get rid of it right away. You can use the chemical killers for this, but I hate putting that stuff in the environment at all so I went searching how to kill poison ivy naturally and using safe ingredients.
Kill Poison Ivy Naturally Recipe:
- 1/2 cup Lemon Juice
- 1 quart Vinegar
- 1/4 cup Salt
- 2 Tbsp of Dawn Dish Detergent
Step 1: Boil Vinegar and Salt
The vinegar and salt solution should be heated to almost boiling To dissolve that much salt in the vinegar. I poured the vinegar and the 1/4 cup of salt into a saucepan and heated it on the stovetop. I stirred the solution until I couldn’t see any more salt granules.
Step 2: Mix Solution Together and Add to Spray Bottle
Once the salt was dissolved, I took off the heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Then I added the lemon juice and Dawn dish detergent and stirred. After it was thoroughly mixed, I poured it into a large spray bottle.
Step 3: Spray on the Poison Ivy Plant
I started early in the morning and spray the plants very liberally all over the leaves. I tried to avoid the plants around it as much as I could. I repeated that process about 6 times over a two day period.
